Stef and Ray’s Surprise Engagement at South Pointe Beach
Stef and Ray’s South Florida Beach Engagement
Stef and Ray got engaged on February 16, 2024, and it was truly unforgettable. Let me tell you how it happened.
Ray is a close friend of mine, so when he asked me to photograph his surprise proposal, I was beyond honored to be part of something so meaningful. After tossing around a few ideas and locations, and we finally decided on a sunrise proposal at South Pointe Beach in Miami. If you have ever seen the sun rise over the water there, you already know how magical it can be. That morning did NOT disappoint.
Planning the Surprise Proposal at South Pointe Beach
Ray wanted something intimate and romantic, so he asked if I could help with a small setup on the beach. I of course said yes. Rachel and I made a quick trip to Walmart and picked up everything we needed. Blankets, candles, rose petals, a picnic basket, champagne, mason jars, and flowers. Simple things that create a beautiful and personal scene.
We arrived at South Pointe Park around 5:30 AM to begin setting up before sunrise. By 6:20 AM, everything was ready. The sky started shifting from deep blue to soft orange and pink tones, and the light was absolutely unreal.
The Moment She Said Yes
At around 6:50 AM, Stef walked onto the beach blindfolded, led by Ray. When the blindfold came off and she saw the setup, her reaction said everything. She was overjoyed, smiling nonstop, completely caught off guard in the best way possible. Those are the moments you cannot recreate. The raw emotion. The genuine surprise. The instant shift from girlfriend to fiancée. And then he dropped to one knee. The waves were crashing softly behind them, the sun was rising over the ocean, and it felt like the entire beach disappeared except for the two of them.
She said yes.
Engagement Session at Sunrise in Miami Beach
After the proposal, we transitioned straight into a mini engagement session while the sunrise light was still glowing. This is one of my favorite things about sunrise proposals at South Pointe Park. You get the big emotional moment and then you immediately capture relaxed, joyful engagement portraits in some of the best natural light Miami has to offer. The beach was still quiet, the light was soft, and Stef and Ray were glowing with excitement. It made for the most authentic and natural engagement photos.

Stef & Rays Review
“Best pictures ever. Arnold went above and beyond for me and accommodating all my needs to do my surprise proposal I’m definitely having him shoot my wedding and my baby shower I couldn’t have asked for a better photographer to do the job. So much attention to detail when editing it’s amazing what he can do.”

Description text goes hIn South Florida, the best sunrise proposal window is usually between 6:50 AM and 7:30 AM, depending on the time of year. I always check the exact sunrise time beforehand because it shifts throughout the seasons.
For Stef and Ray, they arrived around 6:30 to 6:40 AM and walked onto the beach right at 6:50 AM. That gave us the full golden window. The soft light, calm water, and quiet beach made everything feel intimate and natural.
By around 7:30 AM, the sun is noticeably higher. You can still get beautiful images, but that soft sunrise glow transitions into a brighter morning look.
That’s why arriving early matters. It gives us room to breathe and ensures we don’t miss that perfect 40 minute window.

Yes. I help with location suggestions, timing, where to stand, how to approach the moment, and what to do immediately after the proposal so everything flows naturally. My goal is to make it feel effortless while capturing the real reaction.

Right after the proposal, I give you both a minute to soak it in. Then we move into natural portraits while the emotions are still fresh. The best photos usually happen in those first few minutes when everything still feels surreal.
